ABOUT
the artist
Bruce Carrell was born and raised in Bloomington, Indiana and is a graduate of the Indiana University School of Business (’80). Following college, he worked a couple years at the Bloomington Chamber of Commerce as the Director of Economic Development. He then decided to go into business for himself and put his passion for music to work as a writer and producer of radio commercials and jingles from his home studio. During this time, he also formed a band with his sister Beth and performed at a number of venues in Southern Indiana.
In 1985, Bruce followed Beth and her husband Tim Mitchell to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Tim was involved in a development project there and Bruce and Beth continued to perform and write music while trying unsuccessfully to get their foot in the door in Nashville, Tennessee. A few years later, Tim and Beth moved back to Indiana, and Bruce stayed in Myrtle Beach and founded the company he has managed since that time, Carrell Group / Carrell Homes. At this point, the company has built over 1,000 homes in the Myrtle Beach and surrounding areas and boasts a reputation for quality construction and being specialists in hurricane resistant
construction techniques.
In the many years since his music performance days, Bruce has continued to write and record original songs. His wife Sonya and sister Beth have been constructive critics of his works, and Beth has often joined him in the studio to add keyboard parts and vocals to his demos. In 2019, Bruce got the idea to write a humorous Christmas song, and after a number of versions and rewrites of “I Drank Beer with Santa Claus,” he finished the work in the summer of 2022.
In June 2024, Bruce released "Make America Great Again." Bruce has always been a fan of Trump’s rallies. When he watched the huge rally in New Jersey and saw the spirit of the crowd (and Trump of course), he was inspired to write and record this song. He plans to record a longer version of the song with additional verses.
